About Raised on Reading

Who am I, and why do I have a book review blog? Good questions.

For as far back as I can remember I have been an avid reader. It started with the Little Golden Book series. Do you remember those? My favorite was “The Poky Little Puppy”, which just happens to be the top selling children’s book of all time in the U.S. See, even then I had good taste.

Throughout my career, first as a corporate communications writer, and later as a college professor of communications, I’ve made time to read. Reading what others wrote made me a better writer. It also helped me become a more rounded, informed individual.

And I loved how reading transported me to another place and time. Not necessarily an escape, but an experience I might not find anywhere else.

But something was missing. There was no one with whom to share my experience. To analyze plot and character development over a cup of coffee or a cold beer. So when I recently retired I joined a book club at my local library, and soon became the club’s coordinator. It was only one night each month, a mere 60 minutes of time, but it was spent with people who had read the same book as me, and shared both similar and diverse viewpoints. It was great.

So, as a writer, developing a book review blog seemed like a natural segue. It’s not a moneymaker. Just a sharing of the passion I have for reading. And here we are.

I’ve written and published three books (“One More Dance," “Bloodline” and "Unfinished Business"), and if you Google my name you’ll find a myriad of articles I’ve written over the years on various websites. I understand writing, I’ve taught it, and I love reading – four, five or six books a month, easily.

And now I plan to share that love of reading with you.

But don’t just read the reviews. If you have also read, or soon choose to read, a book I’ve reviewed, I’d love to hear from you. Develop a dialogue and exchange thoughts on an experience we’ve both shared.

You can easily reach me through the email address on the Contacts tab. I check it daily, and respond quickly.

And if you provide me with your email address, you will receive an email alert letting you know when a new book review has been posted.

So, that’s it. Thanks for checking out my book review blog. And I look forward to sharing my love for reading with you going forward.
